Skills for Work

Of all the issues related to youth, the lack of employment stands out due to its grave ripple effect. It makes youth unproductive, dampens aspirations and poses great risk on critical national economic and social development goals. While employment has conventionally been seen as a consequence of higher education, this has served little purpose in a broken formal education system where the majority of the youth does not conclude formal education. In such a scenario – “Skilling” is seen as the only tool which has the ability to transform the demographic disaster to demographic dividend. It is absolutely imperative that we have a system in place that systematically skills a person and produces appropriately skilled youth in sync with their cultural context, aspirations and the demand of the market.

From 2021-2027, CEMCA intends to achieve the following –

  • Capacity Building program for Vocational Trainers

CEMCA will work with Governments, Civil Societies and Vocational Training Institutions to train vocational trainers in ODL and online learning which will lead to improved knowledge/skills of these trainers. This also support skill institutions in implementing policies and strategies in ODL, effective online teaching skills and assessment.

  • Skill Development for Livelihood enhancement

CEMCA will provide training in employable skills directly to learners, and recognizing the prior skills of learners through adequate courses and certification, establishing partnerships with the labour market.

This will lead to increased access to quality learning opportunities (both online and offline) and improved learning outcomes, specifically in employable skills areas. This will in turn lead to improved livelihoods

  • Listeners and/or viewers to learners

CEMCA is adopting an integrated approach to Community Radio for non-formal learning to support the establishment and capacity development of community radio stations. This will lead to improved knowledge and skills of community radio professional to use community radio as a strategy for reaching marginalised learners. CEMCA also creating educational audio contents and promoting the objective of listeners to learners.
