MRU and CEMCA Launch Lean Six Sigma MOOC to Inculcate Business Excellence in Students and Professionals


Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA), Commonwealth of Learning’s regional centre in Asia, collaborated with Manav Rachna University (MRU), Haryana, India, to offer a MOOC on Lean Six Sigma Foundation course. The MOOC, designed to be comprehensive and application based, was formally launched on 7 November 2023 in the presence of MRU and CEMCA officials.

Speaking on the occasion, Professor (Dr) Sangita Banga, Pro Vice Chancellor, MRU, referred to the strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed between MRU and CEMCA on 7 August 2023, as the union of two esteemed organisations that share a common vision of empowering youth with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in the ever-evolving business landscape. She stated that the partnership signifies their commitment to equip students and professionals with the tools they need to drive positive change and contribute to the success of their organisations.

In his inaugural address, Dr B. Shadrach, Director, CEMCA, emphasised the importance of Lean Six Sigma methodology as a global standard for achieving operational efficiency and excellence across various industries. It is a powerful approach that empowers organisations to minimise defects, reduce waste, and enhance overall quality. By partnering with MRU, a renowned institution recognised for its expertise in continuous improvement and management practices, they are ensuring that the learners and professionals have access to world-class education and resources in this field.

The MOOC is being delivered by Mr Shivendra Sharma, Associate Director – Business Transformation and Process Excellence in a Fortune 100 company. The MOOC includes both theoretical and application based components, enabling students and professionals to apply their knowledge effectively in real-world situations. It will not only benefit students, but also the industries and organisations they will eventually serve.

Other eminent persons present during the launch included Dr Sunil Kadyan, Associate Professor, School of Management and Commerce; Dr Parul Jhajharia, Dean, School of Management and Commerce; Dr Geeta Thakur, Dean, Student Welfare and Dr Tanushri Purohit, HOD, School of Management and Commerce, MRU. This collaborative initiative marks a pivotal step in fostering expertise and proficiency for the future workforce and industry landscape.
