Developing a Sustainable Model of a Community Radio at Radio Deccan, Hyderabad, 10-12 December, 2012

New Delhi: 17/12/2012: One of the biggest challenges facing Community Radio Stations (CRS) is sustainability. As part of its efforts to encourage good practices in community radio CEMCA is working closely with three CRS to help develop a blueprint for a sustainable CR operation. The first part of this activity was undertaken with Radio Deccan, run and operated by Abid Ali Trust, Hyderabad from 10-12 December 2012. While the Trust has built considerable social capital with its development and outreach activities, it faces some other challenges community engagement and reach. CEMCA conducted a baseline study and in-depth discussions with senior management of Radio Deccan, staff and volunteers in a workshop mode to conduct a SWOT analysis and come up with both short and long term action plans to improve sustainability. Over three months, the teams will work closely with a mentor to address various issues identified. The output will help develop a model that will serve as a guide to new and upcoming CRS.
