Maintenance of stock/inventory is one of the important operation of the library.
Media library manager helps the librarian to keep track of the stock and have a proper control over the inventory . Inventory maintenance module allows the librarian to store specific details regarding each item in the stock , condition status , issue status of the item .
Library accession no.:
This uniquely identifies the item in the library.
Item category :
In general there can four types of item in the inventory of a library .
This can be an empty audio cassette, an empty video tape or an empty CD which is issued
to any producer for recording the produced programme on to it. This item has the master copy of the programme. Any copies of the programme are
generated from the master copy. This item is having a copy of the programme made from its master. This item whose contents are neither master nor copy nor it is fresh.It has been used
for some temporary purpose and is open to be use in general. Any one type has to be specified for each item in the library through the Tape Category
field.
Item status:
Any category item whether it be a fresh item or a master item or a copy item has a
status in the library.
This reflects that the item is in active mode in the library implying that it can be
made use for the purpose it stands. i.e A master tape is active for making copies , telecasting the programmes it contains
etc. This reflects that the item is in an re-usable state. The item cannot be used for the purpose it stands for. It is essential to specify the item category and status of each item in the inventory.
Entries for empty items, copy items, general items can be made directly through INVENTORY
inputs form. An entry for the master tape can be made from either programmes or shots form as it
will always lead to new entries either in the programmes table or shots table.
COPY ITEM :
In case a entry has to be made for a copy of an existing master tape then it is essential to specify the master tape to which it relates to . A list of existing master programme tapes or master shot tapes is available through browse option.
The inventory frame also lists out the contents of each tape whether it contains a programme or a shot.It also lists out the member name and due date of return in case the item is issued to any library member.
Technical format :
This specifies the recording format used for the contents recorded in the item.
Issue rights :
This specifies whether the item can be issued or cannot be issued to any library member.
For ex.: The issue rights value for a master tape can be set to cannot be issued.
